first stitches at 13 months :(

Sam had a bad fall at the corner of his bed and got a deep cut jut below his left eye brow… I got scared at the sight of blood first, but then I just washed it with water to see how deep it is and if I can apply some antiseptic… but it turned out to be a 1 centimeter cut which would only be stitched. I called my neighbour and rushed to the doc… meanwhile I had applied palm pressure on his wound so that the bleeding stops. And thankfully it did!

At the hospital Sam was smiling at the Dr and he thought that its just minor scratch since the baby is not at all crying! but when they cleaned it up, they found it big enough to be given 3 stitches!!!! Then Dr asked if I would be OK to hold him while they do the stitching but I wasn’t too sure…. because I was on the verge of crying out loud but somehow trying to control since I was alone with him at the hospital and had to manage everything till my husband arrived…

Then i decided to go inside the room and held his arms, another person held his head tightly and one held his feet, while the Dr did his work … those 8 minutes were again one of the toughest moments so far … but he was fine after coming home and started playing all over again … After all its just a part of growing up … He would be fine soon!

From last few days I have been putting up songs for Sam from ‘youtube’ and he had been listening and enjoying each one of them …. Last night I just pretended to ask him, his choice of song …. “which song do you want to listen from youtube?”

Sam got alert by the question. I asked once again “which song from youtube?” .. and he said. “Aahun mahun mahun….”!!!!!!! It’s the first song which I showed him on the youtube and we have been listening to it everyday… Well, this is the first time when he responded verbally to something … and I know it’s just the beginning!

The most difficult time got over before I could even realize it…. I was too apprehensive of taking sam to the school with me and putting him in a day care there, reasons were many ….. The distance was 140 km per day (for 10 consecutive days)…. travel was by a car where in 6 other people were sitting…. sam would be practically on his own for 8 hrs …..

But the only thing which compelled me to make up my mind was that the day-care was in the same building and I could visit him every 1 hr (or whenever needed) … the thought of me being around him made me feel at ease and then to matters easier for me, the staff was very supportive and the environment was quite conducive ….

He sustained the test of courage and strength! “My boy strongest” is all I can say … He made me feel happy and proud about my decision of going back to work again … Thank you for being such a great support!

Finally, the day which every parent and kid desperately waits for, is here … it’s sam’s first birthday and I couldn’t sleep whole night out of excitement .. i know a couple of years later, the excitement would be more on his side, (not lesser on mine though) … but of course, this one is the most special !!!!!!!!!

yesterday, he stood on his own for the first time … and then walked across from room to the other … he’s quite sure about attaining all the milestones within the first year! all i need to ensure is a conducive environment for his upbringing, so that he grows into a confident and smart young boy

there’s a small party in the evening.. hoping to make it the most memorable of all his days spent with us… my little one is now ‘one’ … and all I can say is you r truly the life’s biggest and greatest blessing on us!!! God bless you with a healthy and enjoyable life… and may God bless us with your smile all throughout this coming year ………..

first tooth …. just b4 his 1st b’day :)

Today, in the morning, I saw a cut on his bottom gum. I got worried, considering the fact that he takes every hard thing in his mouth. But since there was no blood, I wasn’t alarmed … when I touched it, I couldn’t feel anything and neither did he feel the pain . But late in the afternoon, I just touched it once again ( out of curiosity), and felt something hard and edgy coming out … and yes, its his first tooth!

I am glad that he will atleast have 1 tooth on his first b’day (2 days later)… Well.. out of all the milestones, this one made us wait the longest… but still, it’s achieved, well in time

Sam’s newest activity is to hide behind the curtain and do a peek-a-boo! when called by his name So today I got to capture this fun-time with him….. he was in full swing and carried it on for another 10 minutes …. it was tiresome for me to shoot that, i don’t know how he managed to do it 100 times without feeling the heat!

Finally, I could shoot the video of Sam taking those little steps … It was awesome seeing him smile and run towards me. He walked good 10 steps for the first time and I was lucky enough to have his daddy around at the same time, with the camera! Watch him and I bet he will leave you asking for more

Getting back to routine!

Ever since I got the job, my concern shifted from ‘getting things ready by 7.30 am’, to ‘waking up Sam at 6.30′ …. Never did I wish to wake him up ‘forcefully’ from his sound sleep, giving him bath, feeding him at 7 , getting him ready, and in this process…. spoil the rest of his day! He used to sleep at 12.30 and wake up at 8.30…. 8 hrs of sleep is what he must get in order to wake up fresh.

So, I asked an experienced friend and got the right mantra for getting your child into the morning routine. She told me to start putting him in bed earlier by 30 min everyday and wake him up also 30 min prior to his normal time …. and she promised me that he’ll get accustomed to my desired schedule within 1 week! …

I followed it for a week … initially it was quite tough to put him to bed early, but then I switched the lights off and gave him bottle-milk …. he would slowly start feeling drowsy and go to sleep in 45min-1hr.

Even waking him up was quite challenging, but as soon as he woke up I would give him some water, wash his face and take him to park …. he would sit there, talk to people, see the flowers, birds and the rising sun!

And yes! he now ‘wants’ to sleep at 10 and wake up at 6 (with a smile)!!!! My biggest worry is over and now I can focus on getting other things in place before getting back to my work!

Climbing High!

Sam went out running after his dad while he was going to office …… at the front door, his attention was captured by the stair-case going to first floor…. He began climbing .. one step after the other and wow! he reached the there on first floor without getting scared… after he climbed 12 steps and was almost there, I asked my friend to get the camera and capture the moment… So we could get the last few moments of action….. in between, he’s looking back trying to track the voice coming from down-stairs…. after reaching the top, he felt proud and……. tired!

It was an amazing feat for an 11 months old baby! Kudos to you son

Finally achieved the greatest milestone !!! Sam walked without support today. I had been making him walk holding his hands from last 1 week… today when he was standing (with support) on the bed-side, I went behind him and called him… he turned back and left his hands one after the other and walked 4-5 steps towards me !!!!

ahhh.. i felt so good… and he was smiling all the way, probably on his own achievement.

I have realised that its all about overcoming your fears and taking that first little step in whatever you do.. and then there is no looking back ! I was hoping that he would be walking around his first b’day and yes! his b’day is around the corner I just want to make a video of him taking those steps and share it with you all …
