A mother's blog: growing with my son!
Another milestone achieved! Samarth has completed 2 wonderful months on this planet and is getting used to the nuances of survival. Recently I noticed him taking his own hand to his mouth, which I believe is a natural phenomenon, being administered in the womb as well. But a couple of days later he astonished me by taking MY hand to his mouth! This is something which a human being must learn for his survival. “Ability to eat”…. Well he is showing that he is ‘capable’, indeed!

Since he has completed 2 months, we took him for DPT vaccination (the dreaded moment…) Just before the day, I kept telling my son not to cry too much (as if he understands me!!)… and believe me…. he just cried for 5 seconds !!!!! the time for which that POINTED NEEDLE PIERCED HIS DELICATE SKIN! But for those 5 seconds, he lost his breath while crying, his face turned red and his dad’s eyes were moist ….
…. The moment dr took the syringe out, Sam was all quiet and with eyes full of tears, he looked at me… there was an assurance in his eyes that “Mom, Dad, don’t worry. I am alright. See I am not even crying now” … Well, this is my son Samarth who somehow understands that when the child gets hurt, parents feel double the pain. Thus he never troubles me when I am feeling low or facing some critical challenge at home or work…
We are falling in love with him with each passing day …. God bless him with a cheerful and healthy life! just say ‘Amen’!
“Mother’s milk is best for the baby and must be given for as long as it can be”. This is the mantra that every mom-in-law or mom or anyone who’s elder to you and has got a child, will give you the moment you concieve !!! I am one of those ‘Lucky’ ones who got this advice and i totally agree with them since I was a biology student (read as topper!) in school and always checked the validity of any statement before implementing it. So I decided to browse through internet to see what does Google ‘baba’ have to say about it.
Then came a series of articles about importance of breastfeeding the baby and comparison between mother’s milk and ‘Formula milk’ (like lactogen and nanogen). There were some highly interesting findings about mother’s milk which I had no clue about and which my mom-in-law or mom or any other elder woman didn’t ever tell me… Considering the fact that a lot of mothers would also be willing to know about all this, I wish to share those findings with all of you…
First important fact is that mother’s milk contains ‘live WBC’s (white blood cells: responsible for child’s immunity) which a processed ‘formula’ food surley lacks!
mother’s milk has sleep inducing protiens which lulls the baby silently to sleep.
formula milk ‘claims’ to contain everything that is required for the babies, but its taste remains the same always, whereas mother’s milk’s taste varies due to the food mother eats and thus the child gets familiar with the eating habits of the family.
mother’s milk has easily digestible protiens, vitamins and minerals whereas formula food, in order to match with the content and quality of mother’s milk makes it hard for the infant to digest it.
The child when breastfed understands his appetite and stops when he feels he’s full; but when fed from top the child is forced to eat even when he doesn’t want it and thus doesn’t understand his capacity which might lead to obesity in future.
Last but not the least, mother’s milk is free of cost !!!!
Though it’s a debatable topic, mother’s milk clearly stands out as a better option over formula milk and shall be given till 6 months after which the baby outgrows its benifits… All the best with feeding your child to good health and secure future from lot of allergies, infections and diseases…
This blog is born out of the need to share what we, as first time parents, are going through in bringing up our 'bundle of joy'. Parenting is the most difficult art that one perfects over a period of time.. So here we are trying to put across our experiences which are gained while practising this art... whatever is written here, doesn't prescribe anything. It's just a log of our daily happenings which we want to share with all of you... nothing official about it!
